2018: a fresh start
i rarely anticipate new years. to me, all they are is an indication of time passing. i usually only stay up and celebrate when pressured by family & friends. if i had it my way, i would be asleep by 9:30 the night before. i usually work on the last day of the year and/or the first day of the year, so i often have an excuse to get out of new years celebrations. this year, although i do work on the first, i am very much looking forward to the first day of 2018. i'm not sure why, but i have a very good feeling about this upcoming year. there is no rhyme or reason for why i am feeling this way. like i said before, i never really celebrate new years or put much thought into the new year. but for some reason, i feel that 2018 is going to be a good one. with this optimistic feeling not leaving any time soon, i thought to outline some changes for the coming year. here's a small peek at some of the changes i wish to make in order to be my best self in 2018:
(1) mindset: work harder, love stronger, do more, think kinder. do more of the good, & less of the bad
(2) health: get healthy, and mean it. eat well, exercise in some form, at least three times a week. make time for myself & my body. enact positive change to bring out the best in myself.
(3) self-love: less negative self talk, more positive self encouragement. have a routine, and stick to it. take care of mind, body, and soul.
(4) focus on the essential: no more unnecessary things. understand the essential, and eliminate the rest. time to focus only on what will lead to positive growth.
(5) look inward: less talking, more listening. don't wait for your turn to speak. instead, attempt to truly understand what the other person is saying (more on that here). keep to yourself. don't let everyone know your business. think hard before you speak, & make sure it contributes positively to the conversation.
(6) less social media: there is no real reason to go on as often as i do. it's a distraction. be more present. care about real things. have it be something unimportant in your life, & use it sparingly.
(7) surround yourself with beautiful things: if it is not beautiful or useful, get rid of it. embody the aesthetic you wish to achieve. marvel in the beauty of things simply because they are beautiful. appreciate, & enjoy. but don't compare yourself. this is not about you, it's about the simple joy of something pleasing to the eye.
(8) save money: no more pulling from your savings. don't buy things just to buy things. save up. lock it away. hide it. do what you need to, just make sure you are putting more money in than you are taking out. this is real life, and real life has bills. time to be an adult about money.

i hope the new year brings you all love, light, joy, laughter, knowledge, kindness, understanding, and happiness.
